How would you fix this? Or would you?

Yesterday DH found something he wanted on craigslist so I went with on a little afternoon outing thinking I might find a little antique shop filled to the brim with paper goods visions of ephemera danced in my head, instead I found this pretty tattered pink window and I had just the spot for it on a narrow wall in our breakfast room. I know there are many wonderful things that one could do with this but I like it as found. My DH frets about the crack in the glass and the peeling paint...
What would you do?

  1. Wow, Beth... the window is gorgeous. I would perhaps replace the glass. But leave the rest as it is:) Love it and great find! Have a blessed day!

  2. Great find Beth! I agree with Theresa, don't do anything to the frame but I'd definately replace the cracked glass.

  4. ...ooohhhhh!!! Great find Beth! ~ and yes, it would be lovely as is... but it would also look lovely as a memory board too! If you use cork, cover it first with some lovely lace or cover a board with some of your fabulous wallpaper stash! ~ You could also use chicken wire and then use pretty clothespin clips!
hhhhmmmmm, have fun thinking of possibilities!!

  7. I love it! I guess it depends on what you want to use it for? Message board? Then put in some wire as others have suggested, just for decor, I love it as is....a great find!

  8. Beautiful find. I'd leave it as it is. Maybe I'd add a little hook or tiny nail at the top of the large center diamond and make a beaded strand with a tear drop shaped prisim to hang. or one of your pretty digital downloads printed on tag suspended with some old seam binding.

  9. I would paint it white and take the glass out and put a mirror in it's place. You could hang small ornaments in the triangles. What you think? Laura Q

  11. Beth, I'm a cheapskate:) Replacing the glass might cost more than what you paid for it!ha! Will it just hang on your wall for decor? Perhaps make a point to have the cracked glass up high. It is indeed chippy and chic. Your hubby sounds like mine. These men just don't get it:)ha!

  12. Oh my! Just stopped by and saw this post. I love this piece as is (and I don't think the cracked glass would pose a hazard if you've got the piece hanging on the wall. After all, it's made it this long). How about using it as a seasonal display... backing it with one of your gorgeous vintage wallpapers (not so permanently that you couldn't change it out if you wanted to), and tucking old photos/postcards/ephemera into the front along the pane edges. You could change the colors of the wallpapers with the seasons, and of course, use seasonal ephemera. What a great find!

  13. Its lovely! If its fairly old the glass may be valuable to someone who works with glass- even thirty years ago glass was different (apparantly, I quote a craftsman here), so if you do change the glass some craftsman who restores or reuses old things might be very glad of it, I've seen that happen before here.

  17. I think I would make it a frame for a mixed media collage. Btw, I've been enjoying my visit, lots of things to see! How is your smaller house? Patsy from
